The Center for Diabetes, Nutrition, Obesity & Metabolism at Saint Anthony Hospital promotes the health and wellness of people with diabetes.

Managing diabetes is a lifelong commitment. Through greater knowledge and awareness, individuals often assume major responsibility for managing this chronic disease.

Our Center for Diabetes, Nutrition, Obesity and Metabolism offers a comprehensive program that provides information to help patients and their families manage diabetes and prevent complications. It is one of 120 programs in Illinois recognized by the American Diabetes Association.

ADA Education Recognition ProgramThe compassionate staff of our Center for Diabetes will assist you in setting goals to improve your diet and increase your physical activity. We will show you how to monitor your blood sugar, and we will give you tips to reduce stress. We will also coordinate specialty care such as eye, foot and wound examinations.

We offer education and support in both individual and group settings and in both English and Spanish. We will work with your primary care physician to ensure you receive quality diabetes care and education that helps you live a healthy life with diabetes.

Center for Diabetes Services

Type I/II Diabetes Program

Taught by a bilingual Certified Diabetes Educator, this program focuses on understanding the mechanism, diagnosis, treatment, control and side effects of Type I and Type II diabetes.

  • Two, 2-hour classes - maximum of 10 individuals per class
  • One or two private, 30-minute, follow-up sessions with one telephone follow-up
  • Free for HMO, Medicare and PPO patients with appropriate referrals and authorizations
  • Patients may apply for, and possibly receive, a discount via Patient Financial Services
  • English and Spanish sessions available

Diet Education

Taught by a registered dietitian and can be contact at 773.484.4507.

Gestational Diabetes Program

Taught by a bilingual Certified Diabetes Educator, registered dietitian or registered nurse, this program focuses on understanding the mechanism, diagnosis, treatment, control and side effects of gestational diabetes - that is diabetes during pregnancy.

  • Individual- or classroom-style sessions
  • Free for all patients, regardless of insurance type
  • English and Spanish sessions available

Healthy Lifestyle Program

Taught by a bilingual Certified Diabetes Educator, registered dietitian or registered nurse, this program provides education regarding nutrition and exercise to promote a lifestyle that includes weight management and chronic disease prevention.

  • Four, 90-minute classes
  • One telephone follow-up with private appointments, as needed
  • Free for all patients, regardless of insurance type
  • English and Spanish sessions available
